DISCLAIMER: MILITARY IMAGES AND INFORMATION DO NOT IMPLY ENDORSEMENT BY THE MARINE CORPS OR THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

It all starts with a PLEDGE…

My volunteer enlistment in the US Marines Corps was a pledge to give my life if necessary, to our republic, and our way of life as Americans! Therefore, my pledge to you has been and continues to be, giving you the same commitment and sacrifice as I did for our country.

  • I PLEDGE to protect democracy through increased accountability and transparency by bringing along the voter into the electoral process that was for too long kept behind closed doors.
  • I PLEDGE to continuously uphold the highest standards of safety and security through continued efforts to battle m/disinformation, engage local, state and federal offices to protect information infrastructure, and securing the highest training standards for all personal, employer or civilian to protect democracy
  • I PLEDGE to protect democracy by manifesting in a new bipartisan model, which has returned Maricopa elections into the premier position as a great American voting system.

Key Accomplishments

Fixed our precinct problem. The Recorder’s office created new precincts and rebalanced existing precincts, reducing wait times for voters across the county. Even more effective at reducing lines and wait times for voting, he has made Early Voting easier. Me and my team added new Voting Centers across the county so people can vote at their convenience, either by dropping off their Early Ballot or by voting in person regardless of where they live in the county.

Addressed the backlog of completed but not processed voter registration forms. My team processed tens of thousands of forms found that were in boxes collecting dust. We also reinstituted the Deputy Registrar program. By training hundreds of volunteers in how to complete voter registration forms properly, they’ve taken major steps to engage citizens in the civic exercise of helping more citizens become registered voters.

Opened up the office to citizens, so all can see what the Recorder’s Office is doing and hold them accountable. My office has published annual reports, established the award winning “Round Table Project,” created a community relations team, held hundreds of community meetings, spoke to hundreds of groups and organizations, and conducted numerous tours of the Election Department facilities. Transparency and accountability matter

Made sure our election systems and voter records are safe and digitally secure. When I was in the Marines, I was entrusted with secure information about our national security. I consider the security of our elections and voting to be the single most important aspect of my job as County Recorder. That’s why I acted immediately to make sure our systems were secure. Working with top digital and elections security experts from around the nation, I have made sure that Maricopa County’s election systems are one of the safest, most secure, and forward-looking within the United States

But the most important accomplishment has been repairing the relationship between the Recorder’s Office and the County Board of Supervisors. Working closely with the Board, particularly former Chair Bill Gates, I came up with an innovative restructuring plan that has elevated the Elections department into two co-managed areas, one featuring Registration and Early Voting overseen by Recorder’s office, and the other Election Day and Emergency Voting, led by the County Board of Supervisors. This improved structure addressed the staffing issues, made the department more efficient, and improved voter access and voting reliability, and will serve as a model for other counties across the United States.

2020 & Beyond

  • I’m committed to the continuation of transforming our decades-old technical infrastructure. Updating it to reflect the current and future requirements for data management and security.
  • I will also continue to expand the Recorder’s outreach efforts to identify voter issues early, ensuring ALL voters have easy and secure access to election services.
  • I will continue to explore mobile and other technology and data formats for delivering better public access to data for all customers.
  • I will continue to build upon the improved, bipartisan work they are doing with the County Board of Supervisors to improve the flow of information from the County to all citizens, and deliver ever improving citizen voting access to ALL voters in Maricopa County.
